Parcel Force, DHL, Initial Citylink…

Tuesday, September 26th, 2006

Today Amtrak officially joined the firms above in the “Couriers who Math hates” club. I won’t bore you with the details. Just avoid them.

Fedex and Special Messaging Services are the only firms worth bothering with.

End.

Idea for a new drinking game

Wednesday, September 20th, 2006

Get all of the day’s newspapers and drink everytime one of the following phrases are used:

“angered the Muslim community”
“the Muslim Council of Great Britain”
“radical Muslims”
“outrage in the Muslim world”
“British-born Muslims”

And, if you’re dumb/alcoholic enough to play this game, then I’ll see you in hospital or worse.

It seems that the Muslim Community® is getting the kind of exposure that Jordan could only dream of.

P.S. Before the hate mail floods in, this is a criticism of the British press, not a criticism of the Muslims being written about.

Slave to the grind

Back at work for a week now, and adjusting to the routine was not as much a pain as I feared it would be, given that waking up before noon had posed such a problem while on holiday…

Looks like the Missus is inheriting her Mum’s car. I am inheriting the wallet-deflating insurance and car tax. I feel punked.

Seeing as an end to my residency in London is in sight - less than 2 years but that seems to fly by - I’m determined to make use of what’s in London before I go. When you live here you never actually do all the touristy stuff. I came to this conclusion before going to Wales, except I did so during the holidays and found myself queuing outside the Natural History Museum in the rain with all the tourists and the kids on school holidays. The little shits. Memo to self: don’t do touristy stuff during holiday season.

The beginning of the academic year, which is next week I believe, will mean that my favourite lunchtime haunts - the student unions - will be swamped by wide-eyed freshers eager to commence the student lifestyle. Shame, because I really would like to go to Kings SU one Saturday as it’s surprisingly good, considering. Far better than LSE (it’s called Crush for a reason…) and UCL (too chav-heavy for my liking).

Currently thinking about going to see:

One Man Star Wars Trilogy
Rhod Gilbert: Knocking On Heavens Door
Mitchell and Webb
Tim Vine

EDIT- now booked :)

I’m not dead

I’ve just been busy for the last month. Four weeks off work, broken down for you into some bitesize informational morcels:

- Two weeks in Wales and two in London
- 4 days suffering the effects of food poisoning
- Getting myself ejected from Wetherspoons by 6 bouncers
- Too much web design work and not enough time actually enjoying the holiday
- The Missus does incredibly well in her exams and narrowly misses a merit
- New motherboard and power supply and my Mesh desktop PC STILL doesn’t work
- Web design client expects a “Google/eBay/Amazon competitor”… with a budget of £1400!
- Treated myself to Tekken 5 and Hyper Street Fighter on PS2… HADOUKEN!

Back at work tomorrow. Half gutted that the holiday is over (and I didn’t do much with it), and half looking forward to having the routine back.

Better, more coherent sentences explaining the points above coming soon.

PS - Cez, if you’re reading this, come down to London you bastard
